About Our Company

The company was started by dad, Gerald Holmes as a sole trader in the 1970,s as a painter and decorator, operating from the village of Blockley in the Cotswolds (A lovely picture opposite of Blockley church taken from a skylight while doing a roof repair) and continued until 1980 when Paul Holmes joined the company as a partner and GS Holmes & Son was created.

Paul added more scope to the business having trained as a brick and stone mason.

In 1985 myself Nigel Holmes was employed by the company to add his carpentry skills, so now extensions and renovation work could be completed in house from start to finish.

Sadly in 1990 dad passed away very suddenly leaving a big hole in our lives.

The company continued to grow over the next few years adding Trevor to the team who has been with us ever since and then Tom Cox who started as a 16 year old and is still with us today apart from a small gap when he went to try something new.

Tom Phillips also joined us from school and is still with us today giving us his brickwork and plastering skills.

We now also have a new carpenters apprentice Thomas Bushell 17 years old.

I myself left for a while to run my own locksmiths and electrical business but returned a few years later.

Pauls wife Jenny is now also a key part of the company running the office after retiring from a successful career in banking.

We now employ more staff and sub contractors with a wide range of skills and experience,  the company is now based in Shipston On Stour where Paul and Jenny have lived since they were married all those years ago.

We serve the surrounding area and the Cotswolds and have even been as far up as Bakewell and as far down as London working with the general public and letting agents and holiday cottage companies we are key holders for many clients who live away and overseas and deal with maintenance issues for them.

Thankyou Nigel Holmes
